State of the Union 2012

It surprised me that Obama bragged about all the good things to come from ending America’s wars and threatened to invade Iran, in the same speech. My tweet below quickly received 50+ retweets; it seems others have the same though.

No he said he was not taking any card off the table. He did not say what cards were on the table. Don’t put words in other mouths.

^^ And what is it you suppose he means when he says that and ends the same sentence with “…but a peaceful resolution of this issue is still possible, and far better.” while spending the last month sharply increasing U.S. military presence in the countries surrounding Iran?

I believe they prefer not to invade Iran. That would be way more difficult than Iraq or Afghanistan. They do intend to protect shipping through the straits of Hormuz and if Iran escalates, well what would you do in this international chess game?

Nice post. I agree it would be way more difficult but I think the actions and policies that the US is carrying out are quickly escalating the situation into in an evitable war. Iran threatened to cut off the straits of Hormuz in response to the most recent rounds of US sanctions against Iran. They have now sanctioned 39 Iranian banks which is only hurting the Iranian people and making them more dependent on their leader than ever. No sane person wants Iran to have nuclear weapons. But even Martin Van Creveld, the leading Israeli miltary historian said that if Iran is not building nuclear weapons they are crazy because the US threats to attack them are credible. The US has invaded two of Iran’s adjoining countries and has military bases in every surrounding country. They have increased their weapons sales to Israel (which has 300 nuclear weapons) who is also making threats to attack them. Just recently Obama send $10 of billions of dollars in more weapons and bomber plans to Saudi Arabi. Many people in this country, myself included, are exhausted with all the US war and I’m hoping my government will take actions to diffuse the situation with Iran, not escalate it.
